Housing America's Older Adults—Meeting the Needs of An Aging Population: America’s older population is in the midst of unprecedented growth. With the aging of the large baby-boom generation and increased longevity, the 50-and over population is projected to increase about 20 percent by 2030, to 132 million. In just 15 years, one in five people will be at least aged 65. Ensuring that these older adults have the housing they need to enjoy high-quality, independent, and financially secure lives has thus taken on new urgency not only for individuals and their families, but also for the nation as a whole.

Art Works, National Endowment for the ArtsThe National Endowment for the Arts has awarded a 2014 Art Works grant to conduct a new initiative, Designing for People, User/Experts in Schools of Design.  This project builds on 14 years of IHCD’s Access to Design Professions and knits the project into IHCD’s commitment to engaging user/experts.  User/Experts are people with lived experience of functional limitations whose personal experience interacting with the environment can offer detailed insight into design that works and to creating transformative learning experiences for design students. The project will work with design schools within a 50-mile radius of IHCD's headquarters. If you are a user/expert already in our database or interested in participating in this project, please email Willa Crolius, Director of the User/Expert Lab @ wcrolius@IHCDesign.org.
